Keeping the music unique over multiple brands, each with their own distinctive offer and clientele was the challenge set for us by one of the country's largest and fastest growing pub companies.
Based in Bury St Edmunds and brewing beer and running pubs for over 200 years, Greene King manages an estate of over 3,000 pubs, restaurants and hotels across the UK.
Greene King’s rapid expansion throughout the premium pub market resulted in a disparate music policy that didn't always reflect the values of the brewery or the new businesses being created.
Having worked closely over time with many of the key sites prior to their purchase by Greene King, we had a deep understanding of both their clientele and trading. This meant we were ideally placed to formulate a wider strategy for music provision across the emerging brands.
Retaining the unique feel of previously independent venues as they joined the Greene King family was key to our approach.
To achieve this, we spent a lot of time talking to venue staff to ensure an up-to-date picture of each site’s current music style and how they'd like it to develop.
With this knowledge in place, we were able to consult with area and ops managers to tie those requirements into the wider values and appeal of the new brands.
The result is a bespoke yet manageable music policy that captures the right atmosphere for each of the company's business strands and reacts quickly to the specific needs of individual sites.
Staff at all levels love their new degree of music control and because we were able to educate venues about unlicensed music sources, Greene King remain fully protected from any rights issues.
"The c-burn team provide great service and support both to our former business, Realpubs, and the current one - Metropolitan Pub Company. Our sites need flexibility and variety to make the atmosphere at differing times of day and throughout the year.
The music knowledge and control c-burn provide is invaluable to our business... They provide bespoke training to our site to support them on getting the best from it and are always on hand to help and support."
